Welcome! |
|
| Oak Park, Illinois is home to the world's largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright designed buildings and houses, with 25 structures built between 1889 and 1913. It was in our village that Wright developed and perfected his signature Prairie Style architecture, emphasizing the use of interior light and open spaces in low, earth-hugging buildings. His designs changed the course of 20th century architecture. Many of the Wright houses and buildings in Oak Park and River Forest are registered National Historic Landmarks. |
| We invite you to look at the individual houses and buildings in Oak Park, or take a "walking" Photo Tour of the Wright architecture in Oak Park. |
| Each year, Oak Park and River Forest hosts a plethora of activities around the second or third weekend of May to celebrate the work of Wright, including the Wright Plus Housewalk. |

The Guide to Frank Lloyd Wright & Prarire School Architecture in Oak Park
by Paul E. Sprague, published 1986 by the
Village of Oak Park,
is an excellent reference about Wright's architecture and houses in Oak Park. The commentary
and descriptions of the Wright designed residential properties featured on this site are frequently
excerpted from this text.
The Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust Book Catalog offers a selection of guidebooks which can be ordered online. |
