From Evanston & North Chicago
- By Automobile/Taxi
- Take the Edens/Kennedy Expressway south to the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) junction,
turn left onto the Eisenhower and proceed 10 miles to Austin Avenue (or Harlem Avenue 2 miles later.)
Exit from the left lane. For all attractions in north Oak Park,
turn right (north) onto Austin Avenue and travel
about 1 mile just pass the overhead "L" tracks,
then turn left onto Lake Street. The Oak Park Visitors Center is about
one and a half miles ahead, then to the left on Forest. For the Oak Park Conservatory, turn left onto Austin and
then immediately turn right (west) onto Garfield.
Proceed west on Garfield past East Avenue (the third stop sign.)
The Conservatory is on the south side of Garfield, just after East Avenue.
- An alternate route is to take Cicero Avenue (US 41) south to North Avenue,
then follow North Avenue to Oak Park. Following city streets is often faster than
sloughing through the congestion on the not-so-expressways.
From North Avenue, turn left (south) onto Oak Park Avenue.
Turn right at Lake Street to get to the Oak Park Visitors Center.
Or, turn right at Pleasant Avenue to get to the Pleasant Home. For the Conservatory,
follow Oak Park Avenue through almost all of town, then turn and turn left
onto Garfield just south of the Eisenhower, and proceed 2 blocks east.
- By Public Transportation (CTA Interactive Map)
- Take the appropriate CTA line to the Loop, then transfer to the
CTA Congress "L" Blue Line
and proceed to the Oak Park Avenue station. The Oak Park Conservatory is south of the station exit onto East Avenue.
For all attractions in north Oak Park, catch a Pace bus or Taxi north to Pleasant Street for the Pleasant Home,
or Lake Street for the others.
- Alternately, take the approrpiate CTA line to the North Loop, then transfer to the
take either the Chicago-Northwestern (Metra)
or Green Line "L"
to the Harlem/Marion station. The Pleasant Home is 3 blocks south,
the Oak Park Visitors Center is 2 blocks north.
