From Downtown Chicago & the Loop

By Automobile/Taxi  
Take the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) to Austin Avenue (or Harlem Avenue 2 miles later.) Exit from the left lane. For all attractions in north Oak Park, turn right (north) onto Austin Avenue and travel about 1 mile just pass the overhead "L" tracks, then turn left onto Lake Street. The Oak Park Visitors Center is about one and a half miles ahead, then to the left on Forest. For the Oak Park Conservatory, turn left onto Austin and then immediately turn right (west) onto Garfield. Proceed west on Garfield past East Avenue (the third stop sign.) The Conservatory is on the south side of Garfield, just after East Avenue.

By Public Transportation (CTA Interactive Map)
Take the CTA Congress "L" Blue Line to the Oak Park Avenue station. The Oak Park Conservatory is south of the station exit onto East Avenue. For all attractions in north Oak Park, catch a Pace bus or Taxi north to Pleasant Street for the Pleasant Home, or Lake Street for the others.

Alternately, from the North Loop take either the Chicago-Northwestern (Metra) or Green Line "L" to the Harlem/Marion station. The Pleasant Home is 3 blocks south, the Oak Park Visitors Center is 2 blocks north.

 


From Evanston & North Chicago

By Automobile/Taxi  
Take the Edens/Kennedy Expressway south to the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) junction, turn left onto the Eisenhower and proceed 10 miles to Austin Avenue (or Harlem Avenue 2 miles later.) Exit from the left lane. For all attractions in north Oak Park, turn right (north) onto Austin Avenue and travel about 1 mile just pass the overhead "L" tracks, then turn left onto Lake Street. The Oak Park Visitors Center is about one and a half miles ahead, then to the left on Forest. For the Oak Park Conservatory, turn left onto Austin and then immediately turn right (west) onto Garfield. Proceed west on Garfield past East Avenue (the third stop sign.) The Conservatory is on the south side of Garfield, just after East Avenue.

An alternate route is to take Cicero Avenue (US 41) south to North Avenue, then follow North Avenue to Oak Park. Following city streets is often faster than sloughing through the congestion on the not-so-expressways. From North Avenue, turn left (south) onto Oak Park Avenue. Turn right at Lake Street to get to the Oak Park Visitors Center. Or, turn right at Pleasant Avenue to get to the Pleasant Home. For the Conservatory, follow Oak Park Avenue through almost all of town, then turn and turn left onto Garfield just south of the Eisenhower, and proceed 2 blocks east.

Take the appropriate CTA line to the Loop, then transfer to the CTA Congress "L" Blue Line and proceed to the Oak Park Avenue station. From Midway Airport

By Automobile/Taxi  
Take Cicero Avenue north to Roosevelt Road, turn left on Roosevelt and travel about 2 miles to to Ridgeland Avenue. Turn right (north) onto Ridgeland Avenue. For the Oak Park Conservatory, turn left onto Garfield (just before the Eisenhower,) and proceed west past East Avenue (the next stop sign.) For all attractions in north Oak Park, go about 2 miles on Ridgeland until Lake Street (just past the overhead "L" tracks) then turn left onto Lake Street. The Oak Park Visitors Center is about one mile ahead, then to the left on Forest Avenue.

By Public Transportation (CTA Interactive Map)
Take the CTA Orange Line to the Loop, then transfer to the CTA Congress "L" Blue Line. The special CTA transfer map says it all. Proceed to the Oak Park Avenue station. The Oak Park Conservatory is south of the station exit onto East Avenue. For other attractions, catch a Pace bus or Taxi north to Pleasant Street for the Pleasant Home, or Lake Street for the others.

Alternately, transfer from the CTA Orange Line to the CTA Green Line "L" to the Harlem/Marion station. The Pleasant Home is 3 blocks south, the Oak Park Visitors Center is 2 blocks north.

 


From O'Hare Airport

By Automobile/Taxi  
Exit the airport on the expressway I190, then turn right onto River Road and head south about 9 miles to North Avenue. From North Avenue, turn right (south) onto Oak Park Avenue. Turn right at Lake Street to get to the Oak Park Visitors Center. Or, turn right at Pleasant Avenue to get to the Pleasant Home. For the Conservatory, follow Oak Park Avenue through almost all of town, then turn and turn left onto Garfield just south of the Eisenhower, and proceed 2 blocks east.

By Public Transportation (CTA Interactive Map)
Go to the CTA station underneath the baggage area, and take the CTA Congress "L" Blue Line. It is importatnt to be sure to get a "Congress L" train, and not a "Douglas" train on the same tracks which goes to Cicero. The "Congress L" goes directly to Oak Park, all for the bargain fare of $1.50. Exit at the Oak Park Avenue station. The Conservatory is just south of the East Avenue exit. For other attractions, catch a Pace bus or Taxi north to Pleasant Street for the Pleasant Home, or Lake Street for the others.

 


From the Western Suburbs

By Automobile/Taxi  
From most locations, take either the Eisnehower Expressway I290 or the I88 extension to I290. Exit from the left lane onto Harlem Avenue. For the Oak Park Conservatory, turn right onto Harlem and then turn immediately left onto Garfield Avenue and proceed east to East Avenue. For all attractions in north Oak Park, turn left (north) onto Harlem. For the Pleasant Home, turn right off Harlem onto Pleasant Avenue just before the overhead Lake Street L tracks. For the Visitors Center and the Wright and Hemingway attractions, turn right onto Lake Street one block after the overhead Lake Street L tracks.

The only real choice is to take the Chicago-Northwestern (Metra) to the Harlem/Marion station. The Pleasant Home is 3 blocks south, the Oak Park Visitors Center is 2 blocks north
